Introduction to Guild Wars 2

Of all the games we all have to play and stick to, we all knew that sooner or later I had to write something about an MMO, and since it's my blog. I know, I know, I havent been posting this weekend, but to save myself from the rage, Here it is! A Big one about one certain game! I choose Guild Wars 2!

let's start with the first one!

Guild Wars

There are few people who actually played the first Guild Wars game, but those who had even just tried the first few levels might have noticed how that game does not have any jumping at all. Which really bothered me a lot, also the part where you have to go all the way back to the start when you're done in an instance.

Party Ready for a mission.
It's a shame that I didn't really get that much into it, but the "no jumping" made it harder to actually do anything fun at all, I felt glued to the ground!

But the good thing about Guild Wars 1 is the lack of the monthly subscription fee, it's just 1 time payment and you got it. though you may encounter some areas or items which you cannot obtain without the expansions and the relatively low level caps. After reaching the level cap players differentiate learned skills can be equipped at any one time, the challenge is to select the skills that synergies well in the next combat/quest.

"The games depict the history of the fictional fantasy world of Tyria; each campaign focuses on events in disjointed sections of the world at roughly the same time. A player creates an avatar to play through the cooperative storyline of a campaign, taking on the role of a hero who must save Tyria from episode-specific antagonists. Players can group with other players and non-player characters, known as henchmen and heroes, to perform missions and quests found throughout the game-world."  - Wikipedia

The Story is great, you even had Cooperative Mission that move the storyline. they are usually just called missions, these form the backbone of the storyline in each campaign. Each requires a party of 4-8 players and sometimes NPC's to complete certain quests to continue. In general, the party fails the quest if every party member dies.

Rest assured, the lack of experience I have of this game should not have any influence at all about you guys even try it. Hell let me even encourage you to buy it if you play Guild wars 2 since you can get "Hall Of Monument" items if you play and link the two accounts together.

Guild Wars 2

"Guild Wars 2 is an MMO from Arenanet and published NCsoft. Set in the fantasy world of Tyria, the game follows the re-emergence of Destiny's Edge, a disbanded guild dedicated to fighting the Elder Dragons, a Lovecraftian species that has seized control of Tyria in the time since the original Guild Wars. The game takes place in a persistent world with a story that progresses in instanced environments." - Wikipedia

Now then! About how this game is something for itself compared to other MMO's is that they have removed the typical "questing" and added a dynamic event system. Which gives it a ripple effect to allow you as a player to do quests in different ways as part of a persistent world. I have to mention the Combat system, it's not the typical button mashing like the other MMO's have. The combat is more dynamic by promoting synergy between professions (classes if you might) and using the environment as a weapon, as well as reducing the complexity of the magic style skill system of the original game.

As the Sequel to the Guild wars, Guild wars 2 has the same lack of subscription fees that was so rare for other MMO's at that time, but do not forget that you still need to buy the game to play it.

The Story takes place in the World of Tyria, 250 years after the player's defeat of the Great Destroyer in the Eye of the North expansion. Five Elder Dragons sleeping beneath the continent have awoken in the time since Guild Wars, causing widespread destruction to Tyria and corrupting its inhabitant.

Your characters quest is to reunite the members of the disbanded Destiny's Edge, a multi-racial adventuring guild whose members' struggles and the problems trying to combine the strength that is needed to effectively combat Zhaitha, the undead Elder Dragon.

Let's take a look at the races available:

HUMAN
The Humans once dominated the World of Tyria but now at war with the Charr, who have finally reclaimed the last traces of their ancestral homeland of Ascalon from the Humans.

NORN
In the north we have the Norn, a proud nordic race which have been forced south by the rise of Jormag, the elder dragon of ice.

CHARR
Charr is a fierce race, cat-like humanoids that struggle for their homeland of Ascalon from the humans.

ASURA
A technologically advanced race have been forced to establish permanent homes above-ground after the minions of the first dragon to awaken, Primordus, took control of the depths of Tyria.

SYLVARI
Sylvari is a fairly new race who have appeared in Tyria in the last 25 years, unaffected by the difficulties that plague the other races  but with some unexplained connection to the Elder Dragons.

To be honest, this game is for all kind of gamers since it's not really centered on the "hardcore end game raiders" but more of the casual WvWvW (World vs World vs World, 3 different servers against eachother on PvP map), sPvP (structured player vs player, which means turnaments) or dungeons. The only "endgame" dungeons that are a challenge are the Fractal of the mists which gets harder and harder for each level.
More Lore and information about Guild Wars 2 will come on the upcoming days/week.
